IN AUGUST OF 1985, RAMIREZ WENT TO TUCSON ARIZONA TO VISIT HIS BROTHER. WHEN HE RETURNED TO LOS ANGELES, HE WAS ON EVERY COVER OF EVERY NEWSPAPER AND MAGAZINE. HE TRIED TO RUN BUT WAS STILL CAPTURED

Jury selection for the case started on July 22, 1988. 

On September 20, 1989, Ramirez was convicted of all charges: 13 counts of murder, 5 attempted murders, 11 sexual assaults and 14 burglaries.

The trial cost $1.8 million, which at the time made it the most expensive in the history of California.
